How to follow up on a quote: when to send it, what it should say and how to automate it

How to follow up on a quote: the short answer

To follow up on a quote, contact the customer the way the quote went out, keep a reminder for every open quote, and let software send the next nudge on days you set.

Keep the message short, with one clear next step and a second way to reach you, as Jobber’s follow-up guide advises. That guide says a phone call suits only clients who cannot or prefer not to use email or text.

Track every open quote so none is forgotten

Jobber’s manual method is a spreadsheet of who you contacted, when, how, and whether they answered. In Jobber, a sent quote moves from Draft to Awaiting Response, and a quote reminder goes on the calendar of whoever made the quote, as the prompt to follow up by hand.

Every plan can set a reminder to follow up on a quote by hand; the automatic follow-up to the client starts on the Connect plan. A client who asks for changes puts the quote in Changes Requested, which needs a reply, not a nudge. Archive a quote that will not go ahead so the open list stays short.

Send the follow-up the way the quote went

Use the same channel. Jobber’s follow-ups go out in the same method as the quote, so a quote sent by text gets a text follow-up. A quote texted from Jobber carries a link that expires after 24 hours, and the client can get back in with the last 4 digits of their phone number.

Timing is a choice. One Jobber guide says to follow up two to three days after the first email; its other guides say a few days, a week, or a week or two. Pick a time and write it down. The quote itself comes first; how to quote a lawn care job covers it for lawn work. Replies by text stay in one thread with Jobber’s two-way text messaging, a Grow feature that is not available in the trial.

What the follow-up should let the customer do

Give the customer one next step. In Jobber’s client hub, a self-serve page where clients approve quotes, check appointments and pay invoices, a client can approve the quote online, ask for changes or pay a deposit while approving.

Clients approve a quote online and are asked to sign; Jobber’s help says a signature is not required to approve one. If the customer agrees by phone, Jobber lets you mark the quote approved yourself, so no online approval is needed.

Automate quote follow-ups on days you set

Jobber’s help center says quote follow-ups start on the Connect plan and that you set the days after the quote is sent, up to 90, for up to two reminders. You write the message text, and follow-ups go out at the same time of day as the original quote. A client can be switched out of follow-ups in their communication settings.

Core has no automatic quote follow-ups. Jobber’s Connect plan, $139 a month for one user, billed monthly with no commitment and before sales tax, as read on October 23, 2026, sends automatic email or text follow-ups on quotes a client has not answered, and Grow adds custom follow-up rules. Jobber pricing lists every plan and team size, and the Jobber review covers the rest.

A few open quotes a week can ride on calendar reminders and a spreadsheet. Move to automatic follow-ups when the open list grows past what you can reach by hand. Automatic follow-ups are among the Grow features in Jobber’s 14-day trial, so you can watch one go out.
